Party Favorz is back with volume 2 of the Ultimate Trance Classics series and boy oh boy is this a HOT one! This set is packed form start to finish with some of the biggest Trance tracks from the 90's and early millennium. One notable exception is the uncredited trance remix of 'Thank You' by Dido. Anyone attuned to the radio or who was a club kid during the early 00's remembers the massive success of this woman who happens to be an inductee into our Diva Hall of Fame. She's also the sister of Faithless member Rollo who is prominently featured in this tribute series. She had already been riding high off of 'Here With Me' and after Eminem sampled 'Thank You' on his massive single 'Stan,' she exploded on MTV and radio taking the song to #1. The trance version was taken from an unofficial Russian EP that had official remixes from her album 'No Angel' but never had an official release. It's not clear if this is an original remix or a mashup but it's so good that it's worthy of inclusion because it's timely and fits right in with everything else. Keep in mind that Johnny Vicious had created a full-blown trance remix of 'Here With Me' that was already huge in the clubs so including this song just made sense. Otherwise, this set has got so many massive trance tracks included — it reads like a who's who of the DJs and artists who fueled the genre. I have to admit that I really dreaded re-doing this series and expanding on it because these songs are not the easiest in the world to mix. Most have no intro nor outro and clock in at a neck-snapping average of 138 bpm. Needless to say, I've been pleasantly surprised at how well this is all falling together — certainly better than my first effort in 2010. Frankly, I've exceeded my own expectations. Trance is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged from the British new-age music scene and the early 1990s German techno and hardcore scenes. Trance music is characterized by a tempo generally lying between 120–150 bpm (BPM),repeating melodic phrases and a musical form that distinctly builds tension and elements throughout a track often culminating in 1 to 2 "peaks" or "drops". Although trance is a genre of its own, it liberally incorporates influences from other musical styles such as techno, house, pop, chill-out, classical music, tech house, ambient and progressive house. Now that we got that out of the way, Party Favorz is finally dropping the Ultimate Trance Classics that we've been teasing out over a year now. We covered 90's House Classics, 90's Eurodance and now a long overdue and updated Trance Classics. Because the genre grew out of the techno scene in the early 90's and was fueled by pop-up raves in the UK, which quickly spread to the U.S — it gets a classcification all it's own. Like most popular dance music genres, Trance eventually became mainstreamed by corporate music because why waste a good thing that can be aped, recyceled, polished and pushed to the masses in a more palatable form. Other than the genres listed in the Wikipedia description that were incorporated into Trance — the ground-breaking Progressive House scene was the most infulential to Trance, which brought us Faithless, Pefecto and yes, even Club 69 who after riding the house train for years, abruptly transitioned into some hard-hitting tribal, electronic sounds the likes of which no one had heard before. It wasn't uncommon for DJs to incorporate some of these influences into their sets to offset some of the monotony of straight up euphoric Trance. The first set showcases that intermixing, while the second set is straight up Trance. The third and fourth sets should lean more Trance with some progressive tracks that fit nicely but didn't quite fit into the 90's House Classics series that was recently completed. One other thing about this series is the 90's and 00's were mixed in together reflecting Trance at its peak. Unlike the original series that was released in 2010, these newer sets not only deliver the big hits that everyone knows but the ground-breaking tracks that fueled the genre from the ground up. There's a lot of territory to cover so the biggest artists were limited to 2 - 3 songs from their back catalog. All the big names are presented in this four set series including Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Matt Darey, Above & Beyond, Chicane, Armin Van Buuren, Sasha, Blank & Jones and more. While no stone was left unturned in putting this series together — we don't want to hear what's missing or what shouldn't have been included. This is a massive undertaking where just compiling and then culling the track list takes longer than actually mixing them. So if you can do better, go for it. This set has been updated by removing two Jingle Bells' and 'Santa Clause Is Coming To Town' versions and 'White Christmas was moved to a different location for better flow and cohesion. Well HO! HO! HO! After careful consideration as to what I will likely do next year — I decided to go ahead and mix-up this batch of modern-day holiday classic dance remixes for everyone's enjoyment. Well, maybe not everyone. This special edition EDM set features a variety of genres including: Electro House, Dubstep, Trance, Trap, Hip-Hop, House and even Eurodance. It's quite a bit to digest and may not be for everyone but that's why Party Favorz has years of holiday remix sets that may be more to your liking in our back catalog. I listed to the original mix yesterday and was impressed at how I was able to get such a diverse group of songs at wildly different BPM(s) to mesh cohesively. One of the tricks is to duplicate a few songs like "All I Want For Christmas,' 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,' and 'Last Christmas.' To be certain there were multiple copies of 'Jingle Bells' (a song I've always hated mainly for its lack of structure) 'Christmas, Baby Please Come Home' (one of my all-time favorites especially by Darlene Love and U2) and others but in the spirit of trying to keep this set short and sweet — I went with what worked. My only disappoint was no remix of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,' where the version by the Pretenders has special meaning to me. There was a decent remix of the Lou Rawls' jazzed up version but I couldn't make it work. Overall, I'm glad I did this even though it's a one-off. Some of the songs will be included in next year's 'ULTIMATE' X-mas Dance set — especially the illusive dance mix of 'Happy X-mas (War Is Over)' by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. I stumbled across this remix late last year and stowed it away for a rainy day and I'm pleased as punch to have stumbled across it. Originally, I had three bonus sets scheduled for November then whittled it down to two but I was a overwhelmed with what was already on my plate so I dropped both and kept the Purple Disco Machine Legay set. I thought I'd give y'all a heads up that one of those sets is going to see the light of day by the end of the week. Party Favorz is wrapping up November with our annual X-mas Dance series and we've gone overboard to bring newer holiday sounds remixed for the dance floor along with fan favorites from over the years. In fact, there was so many new remixes available — there was enough to make an EDM/Dance Club version but honestly, I'm petered out. That will be saved for the 2022 release. This set leans heavily on the Circuit side because Dario Xavier released five holiday remixes coupled with one from last year I forgot I had. Jet Boot Jack released a remix for Diana Ross' version of 'This Christmas' (originally made famous by Donny Hathaway) and Joel Dickinson (a.k.a. Thee Werq'n Bitches and formerly one half of The Assembly with Billy Waters) had remixed The Carpenters' 'Merry Christmas Darling,' which I've had for a several years but never used because it was kinda dark but figured 'what the hell.' Of course Houston's Dirty Disco dropped their annual holiday mix and this year's entry features Kiva on the Mariah Carey classic 'All I Want For Christmas." The rest of the set was rounded out by favorites from over the years including alternate versions of many of those tracks rarely or never used in a set before. Overall this is a solid effort that's bound to put a smile on the face of the most hardened Grinch. The past 30 days have been pretty rough for me and it feels like I'm being pulled in multiple directions. Couple that with the typical holiday blues and I just need a little space for a bit. Don't even get me started over the exploding cases of Covid or the new variant discovered in Africa, which will be in your neighborhood before you finish listening to this latest set of holiday cheer. No, irony isn't dead on me [grin]. I've cut back my ambitions for December so here's what to expect: First up will be the annual Jingle Electric featuring the latest Dance Club tracks, Holiday Edition 2021 featuring the latest Circuit and Anthems tracks and then our Year In Dance featuring the biggest Dance songs of 2021. Finally, we'll cap the year off with the annual Blow Your Own Horn 2022, which is the ultimate New Years dance party mix that raises the roof and burns down the year that was before bringing us into a new one. It's a gorgeous fall day in the ATL and Party Favorz is dropping volume 5 of our next installment in the Thank God It's Disco series where classic Disco tracks from the 70's and 80's get a modern-day makeover. Most songs don't stray too far from the originals while others only use  the verses with the familiar beat and in one instance two classic Disco tracks get mashed-up into into one. Take note that the Gloria Gaynor 'Never Can Say Goodbye" remix by Jet Boot Jack is Gloria but he used a resung version by Miss Gaynor as opposed to the original so the vocals may sound a bit different but still glorious. That was not the case for "I Will Survive," which frankly has had a multitude of great remixes and the Anthony Fennel remix stays true to the original while giving it a modern House makeover. The same can be said about 'Let's All Chant' by the Michael Zager Band where Block & Crown used all the stems from the original but dropped the uh-ah, uh ah that made this song fun to begin with. Still, all the elements are there and it shouldn't take away from your enjoyment. Next week will be a diversionary week as we take on a Legacy set and update it because this guy has exploded since the original release, which has consistently remained in our top two searches for Party Favorz. The other is a diva who needs no introduction and frankly not even a new induction because after listening to the original release — it's just as smoking now as it was 10 years ago. Nevertheless, there are some modern remixes that have come out since and I haven't quite decided how I'm going to handle it yet but it's bound to please a lot of fans out there. It's been awhile since we put out a 'Thank God It's Disco' series. We've been collecting tracks as they slowly appear through various channels in hopes of creating this fourth volume. Apparently, there were so many that there's going to be a 5th and 6th volume as well. Some tracks are duplicates from the previous three volumes but are re-created by different DJs giving them a whole new feel. Dr Packer has a outsized role to play in these three volumes and someone who's always been a go to because he owns this space. He's followed by Block & Crown (who are on fire at the moment), DJ Meme (a personal favorite) and DJ Barry Harris who appears to be MIA lately (hope he's doing well). While there's plent of D-I-S-C-O in this volume, Funk music plays a starring role as well. We've also started adding a some late 80's dance hits just for fun. We'll be alternating these with the Tony Moran Legacy series introduced yesterday throughout November but also have a few surprises (if we can pull them off in time) making an appearance later in the month.
